December 31st is the last day for individuals to make tax-deductible charitable donations each year.<\/li>\n    <li>Approximately 30% of all annual giving happens in December, with about 10% of all annual donations coming in the last three days of the year, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kiplinger.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kiplinger<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2>More impactful than Giving Tuesday<\/h2>\n<p>While <a href=\"\/giving-tuesday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Giving Tuesday<\/a> typically brings in a large number of small donations, donors who participate in year-end giving on New Year\u2019s Eve tend to give in higher amounts. To show an example, we measured the transaction volume for donations processed via our <a href=\"\/fundraising-software\/integrated-online-forms\/\">integrated online forms<\/a> on New Year\u2019s Eve 2021. Our transactions processed were up slightly (0.92%) from last year. However, dollars donated was another story &#8211; with <b>transaction dollars processed up 10% over last year<\/b>.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"bg_gray\">\n<h4>NAIL IT NEXT YEAR<\/h4>\n<p>Taking a look at your donation volume on New Year\u2019s Eve, and on the days leading up, you can better prioritize your year-end communications in 2022. This New Year\u2019s Eve, we saw a <b>27% increase over last year in donations of $5,000 or more<\/b> processed through our integrated online donation <a href=\"\/fundraising-software\/integrated-online-forms\/\">forms<\/a>. Typically, the last week of the year sees increasing daily volume leading up to the big day.<\/p>\n<p>With time and funds often limited in the nonprofit sector, it is ideal for fundraisers to focus on donor communications that will result in major donations. Focusing on <a href=\"\/online-fundraising\/\">online fundraising<\/a> allows you to put all of your eggs in one basket, so to speak, while still <a href=\"\/whitepapers\/generic\/multichannel-donors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">diversifying your donor communications<\/a> across different online platforms to reach as many supporters as possible.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"bg_gray\">\n<h4>NAIL IT NEXT YEAR<\/h4>\n<p>The increasing daily volume of year-end giving presents an opportunity to build excitement over the course of the week &#8211; like games leading up to the Super Bowl &#8211; in social media posts, website banners, goal meters, crowdfunding campaigns, emails, and videos.<\/p>\n<p><b>Want to tailor a unique message to each supporter?<\/b> Check out <a href=\"\/nonprofit-technology-blog\/nonprofit-technology\/6-ways-to-effectively-manage-donor-email-communications\/\">6 Ways to Effectively Manage Donor Email Communications \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2>By the hour: New Year\u2019s Eve 2021<\/h2>\n<p>What\u2019s fascinating is how the volume of donations on New Year\u2019s Eve curves by hour so similarly year-over-year. Shown below are the giving patterns of transactions &#8211; graphed by the hour &#8211; for both New Year\u2019s Eve and Giving Tuesday. As you can see, volume followed roughly the same curve by hour as last year, with lower volume in the morning and higher in the afternoon hours.<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/uploads.donorperfect.com\/images\/sites\/2\/hhistoric-year-end-graph.png\" alt=\"historic year end graph\" width=\"1200\" height=\"auto\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26853\" \/>\n<p>During peak hours (9 a.m. &#8211; 5 p.m.) we processed a total of 30,874 transactions on New Year\u2019s Eve 2021 &#8211; <b>an average of 64 per minute or a little more than 1 per second<\/b>. The peak hour for transactions was 3-4 p.m. (3,814 transactions processed), and the peak hour for dollar volume was 2-3 p.m. ($1.52M recorded). <b>That\u2019s an average of over $25,000 per minute!<\/b><\/p>\n<aside class=\"bg_gray\">\n<h4>NAIL IT NEXT YEAR<\/h4>\n<p>Knowing peak times by hour, you can schedule social media posts and emails that hit home for donors who can contribute large gifts. They already have the capacity to support your goal, they just need a signal that now is the time to act!
