You are the bridge between where your people are and the change they want to see in the world. Your job is to show them how to cross.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"wp-block-group content-section is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<header data-toc-tag=\"Stop trying to do it all alone\" id=\"section-2-toc-1\"><\/header>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-stop-trying-to-do-it-all-alone\"><strong>Stop trying to do it all alone<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Every December, nearly 30% of all charitable giving takes place, with billions of dollars flowing through causes worldwide. On Giving Tuesday last year, $3.6 billion was donated globally. One of Floyd\u2019s most inspiring stories came from the creation of <a href=\"https:\/\/backblackmovement.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><strong>BackBlack<\/strong><\/a>, a campaign he launched after speaking at the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation about equity in philanthropy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI stood up in a room full of people who control billions of dollars and said, \u2018If we want change, we can make it happen. But we have to put our money where our mouth is,\u201d Floyd says. Five weeks later, BackBlack was live\u2014and in that short time, it raised $1.3 million for more than 700 Black-led nonprofits. \u201cOur budget? Zero whole dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Floyd\u2019s key takeaway: <\/strong>Build campaigns for belonging, not budget. \u201cThe size of your belief has nothing to do with the size of your budget. You don\u2019t have to wait until you have everything to start. You just have to say \u201cyes\u201d \u2026 to yourself, your mission, and your community.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"wp-block-group content-section is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<header data-toc-tag=\"Remember: Hope is not a strategy\" id=\"section-4-toc-1\"><\/header>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-remember-hope-is-not-a-strategy\"><strong>Remember: Hope is not a strategy<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cHope is beautiful, but hope is not a strategy,\u201d Floyd cautions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Instead, he recommends a simple three-step approach:<\/strong><\/p>\n<header data-toc-subtag=\"1. Select your segment\" id=\"section-4-toc-2\"><\/header>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-select-your-segment\"><strong>1. Select your segment<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t try to reach everyone. Pick one group\u2014lapsed donors, monthly givers, social media followers\u2014and meet them where they are.\u201d<\/p>\n<header data-toc-subtag=\"2. Nurture your segment\" id=\"section-4-toc-3\"><\/header>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-nurture-your-segment\"><strong>2. Nurture your segment<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not about getting a higher gift,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s about helping your people become a higher version of themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Floyd breaks down the nurture process into four stages:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Catalyst<\/strong> \u2014 Share the spark that grabs attention<\/li>\n<li><strong>Communicate<\/strong> \u2014 Stay visible and relevant<\/li>\n<li><strong>Convert<\/strong> \u2014 Make a clear, specific ask<\/li>\n<li><strong>Catapult<\/strong> \u2014 Empower your supporters to spread the word<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<header data-toc-subtag=\"3. Sequence your segment\" id=\"section-4-toc-4\"><\/header>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-sequence-your-segment\"><strong>3. Sequence your segment<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Even if you\u2019re starting late, there\u2019s always time to make an impact. Floyd recommends mapping a timeline that includes reminders, gratitude messages, and storytelling touchpoints all the way through December. \u201cAnd don\u2019t just send an automated thank-you,\u201d he says. \u201cPick up the phone.
