The Donor Record’s got a new look! How we’ve updated the most used area of DonorPerfect to make it easier for you to find and enter donor information.

We’ve Updated the Most Used Area of DonorPerfect

DonorPerfect is committed to helping you be a better fundraiser. That’s why we’ve revamped the most used area in our software – the donor record. It has a refreshed layout that makes it easier for you to find and enter donor information. Have a look:

With the updates to the donor record, it is easier to find and enter donor information.

Refreshed and Intuitive Donor Record Layout

The new layout makes it super easy to navigate between the important sections of a donor’s record. It also improves system performance. You’ll quickly find the specific information you need to cultivate your unique relationship with each donor.

Time Saving Tweak

One small but convenient tweak we’ve made will save you time entering donations. Since DonorPerfect allows you to create custom fields for all of your valuable information, you may have a lot of fields. Now, no matter where you are on the record, or how far down you’ve scrolled, the Save button will always be pinned to the top left corner for easy use. The idea to pin the Save button at the top of the screen came to us from one of our awesome clients. We love this productivity improvement. Thank you!

Take Action

When you’re ready to perform specific donor management tasks, you’ll find a list of actions in the bar just below each area of the donor’s record. We’ve removed redundant links that weren’t used or were located elsewhere. These created visual clutter on the screen. We’ve kept key actions that you told us were important and frequently used by you, like processing credit card payments within DonorPerfect using Insta-Charge. By eliminating unused items from the action bar, it makes the existing functions easier to see, which makes them easier to use.

A Better User Experience Boosts Donor Profile’s Metrics

In our last release, we added Donor Profile to the top of the donor record. Using Donor Profile, you can know in an instant how engaged your donors are. Since Donor Profile puts key donor insights and information right at your fingertips, we wanted to make it as easy as possible to enter donor information. A better user experience entering data combined with Donor Profile’s engagement metrics will help you cultivate your most valuable relationships. Simply turn it on from any Donor’s record if you haven’t already.

Donor Profile puts key donor insights and information right at your fingertips to help you build better donor relationships.

Release Notes

Updates to the donor record are not the only improvement in this release. Read about all of the enhancements in the DonorPerfect 2019.01 Release Notes in the Knowledgebase in DP Community.

How do I pin my “SAVE” button?

    • Stephanie Kanak permalink

Hi Lorna – I see that you sent this before the upgrade was deployed on your system. There’s nothing you need to do. Now that the upgrade is deployed, the SAVE button will be pinned automatically. If that is not happening, please let us know by contacting Support.

  2. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for pinning the “save” button to the top left corner of the screen! I have waited for this moment since I began using your product in May of last year.

    • Stephanie Kanak permalink

Thanks John! I’m glad you like it. This was something that clients like you told us that they wanted. We know it will save you time.

  3. Hello. Thanks for your work, really like the new update. One thing: the page titles used to be bold if they contained information, e.g. if the person had gifts on their record, the ‘Gifts’ page title along the top row would be bold.
I used this often so it would be great if you could bring it back. Thanks!

Kind of liking the new look but need to work with it for a bit. One thing that stood out immediately is I no longer see the ** surrounding the tabs that have information. Was there a reason to not have this in the update? Thanks.

        Hi Lori,

      Hi Lisa,

I’m including a reply from our Associate Product Manager, Josh Nelson, who headed up the team that revamped the donor record. Here’s what he wanted you to know about the decision to remove the asterisks.

      FROM JOSH NELSON:
“Hi Lisa and thank you for your feedback. We so appreciate your partnership over the years to tell us what you think so that we can keep improving your fundraising experience. As a rule, we build features based on client feedback, get feedback as we’re building the feature, and continue to listen to feedback after we “go live” to see how we can improve on a next iteration. We’ve been working with many of our clients to get their feedback on the ways we can improve the donor experience. These design improvements to the donor record were a result of many iterations of feedback and the topic of asterisks came up during that process.

Getting quick access to your most important donor information is vital when accessing a record. It saves you steps and keeps you fundraising, without having to spend unnecessary time searching through a record. When building out the new design for this release, we found that while the asterisks indicated the “presence of some data on that screen”, they were not as useful as they could be. To improve efficiency, we wanted to help surface key donor information (what you’re actually looking for). That’s why we built the first iteration of the Donor Profile. We spent months working with clients like you to discover what exactly you needed to be aware of when viewing a donor’s record. Clients told us they wanted information from these four tabs instantly accessible at their fingertips:

Main: Name, Phone, Email, Notes, picture, and Active/Lapsed status
Gift: Last gift, largest gift, lifetime giving amount, number of gifts, how long the donor has been giving for, and whether or not they’re a major donor.
Pledge: Whether or not they have an active monthly gift
Other: Whether or not the donor has volunteered

Note: If you haven’t turned Donor Profile on, click on the text that says Try our new Donor Profile! in the upper right-hand corner of any constituent’s record.

We’ve heard from several clients who have used the Donor Profile that they’ve found it helpful to always have this info at the top of the record. It has replaced some of what they used to use the asterisks for. We recognize this information isn’t everything you could want to know at a glance, which leads me to my last point regarding your feedback.

We continue to make improvements to DonorPerfect based on ideas you submit via Suggest and Vote. If there are improvements you’d like to see, we’d love to hear about it. We’re listening and want to know what all of our users think so we can prioritize our next improvement based on all of our customers’ needs. We really do value our client’s feedback and incorporate it into how we improve DonorPerfect each and every month.”

      • Kara Miller permalink

Please bring back the asterisks! They saved me lots of time when entering gifts.

        • Stephanie Kanak permalink

          Hi Kara,
Thanks for sharing your feedback! Can you help me understand why they saved you time? This would be really helpful for us to understand so that we can continue to improve data entry in DP. Thanks!

  5. Great enhancements! Thanks!

  6. Delene W McConnaha permalink

I love that you’ve pinned the “Save” button to the top of the page. Could you also pin the tabs as well. We could access tabs easily and quickly from anywhere on the page vs. scrolling all the way to the top to move to another section of the record.

  7. Ditto Lisa’s question. The asterisks were helpful, especially for identifying at a glance whether files had been uploaded to a record. Also, I no longer see a “View Narrative” subtab on the Main section. We found this helpful for cleaning up information in the narrative field.

    • Stephanie Kanak permalink

      Hi Lynette,
The link to View Narrative was removed from the action bar since our data showed that not many clients accessed this function and it was easily accessible right in the donor record. You can also quickly see the narrative in the Donor Profile just under the donor’s contact information. We’ve kept key actions that clients told us were important and frequently used by them in the action bar. If there are links that you use and feel would be helpful to have on the action bar, you can submit a suggestion via Suggest and Vote. We’re always open to new ideas and improvements!

  8. I agree with a few comments already. I enjoy some of the new features and really like that the Save scrolls with the screen however I truly miss the ** with the tabs that have information. Especially on the “gifts” and “pledges” tab. Thanks.

    • Stephanie Kanak permalink

      Hi Michelle,
I’m glad you like some of the new features and the Save button that scrolls with you as you work. Thanks for letting us know! We’ve heard from a few clients that they prefer the way that the asterisks notified them of action needed on a tab. Would you be willing to vote and comment on this Suggest and Vote idea related to that? This is where we’re gathering feedback for how our clients use this feature in their day to day work.

The tabs in the donor profile used to be in bold type and have asterisks to indicate they contained data.

What happened to the asterisks and bold typeface?

  10. THANK YOU for these changes. I was just thinking that having the save button more accessible would save me time!

    • Stephanie Kanak permalink

Thanks Doug. I’m glad you like the changes!

  11. David permalink

I would agree with Lisa – the stars were very useful as they indicated that data was in that tab. It enabled you to tell instantly if someone had given or had an extra address. Please bring this feature back promptly!

    • Stephanie Kanak permalink

      Hi David,
Thanks for letting us know that having an indicator like the asterisks on the tabs lets you know to look for new gifts and updated addresses. In a previous thread on this post, Associate Product Manager, Josh Nelson, who headed up the team that revamped the donor record, commented on the decision to remove the asterisks. We spent months working with clients like you to discover how to improve the donor experience. Clients told us they wanted information from the main, gift, pledge and other screens to be instantly accessible at their fingertips via Donor Profile. This has replaced some of what they used the asterisks for.

If you have ideas on how to improve the donor record, we’d love to hear about it. You can submit your ideas or vote and comment on this Suggest and Vote idea. This is where we’re gathering feedback for how our clients use this feature in their day to day work.

  12. Same for me there needs to be something indicating which tabs have data in them. Perhaps make the text gray or some other color if there is no data in it.

    • Stephanie Kanak permalink

      Hi Jerome,
Thank you for your feedback about this month’s release of DonorPerfect. We love to hear from our clients about how they use DonorPerfect. It’s always helpful to us. I appreciate the new features but, one feature that seems to have been removed is the top section Headings for Pledges, Contacts etc.. used to be bold if there was a Pledge or previous Contact, and now they are not.

I found the bold font for Pledges useful, as many of our donors do have active pledges and now I can’t tell when a new gift comes in if I should check to see if it is or isn’t a qualifying pledge payment.

    • Stephanie Kanak permalink

      Hi James,
Thanks for letting us know you like the new features in this month’s release. We’ve had feedback from a few other clients indicating that they’d like a way to know if new gifts should be applied to a pledge payment. The Donor Profile, released at the end of last year, tells you when the last new gift arrived for a donor. If this isn’t exactly what you need, would you be willing to vote and comment on this Suggest and Vote idea? This is where we’re gathering feedback for how our clients use this feature in their day to day work.

  14. Paige permalink

I agree, the inability to see if there is information is really problematic and inefficient. Hopefully this can be changed.

I don’t like the new “Save button” feature. I prefer to use keyboard shortcuts to mouse clicks and I used to be able to set the mouse in one spot and leave it there while entering the entire gift and then save it with quick click. Now I have to move the mouse again to save.

It may not seem like much, but every time I have to move the mouse it slows me down.

    • Stephanie Kanak permalink

      Hi James,
Thanks for commenting again to let us know your thoughts about the release. It really does mean a lot to us that we have so many clients that care so much about our product. With regard to saving records, you can still use the CTRL + S keyboard shortcut to save a record. (Here’s our list of keyboard shortcuts in DonorPerfect.)

A few other clients commented that they prefer the SAVE button be on the right side as well. I suggested they enter a suggestion and see if other clients agree and vote on the idea.

If you’re interested, we have a Usability discussion group in DP Community. This is where our designers frequently share proposed screens and feature changes before they are implemented. Join this group to provide feedback on upcoming features as they are being developed. I think you’d provide some great feedback! I hope you consider joining.

  16. Ditto Lisa. That ** was huge for the at-a-glance to let me know if I should bother to check the screen or not. It would be a real loss if you leave it this way.

    • Stephanie Kanak permalink

      Hi Nancy,
Thanks for letting us know that the asterisks on the different tabs of the donor’s record were a time saving function for you. Some of the information you might be looking for via the highlighted tabs can now be found in new Donor Profile. (e.g. latest gift, address information, etc.) Since I’m not sure exactly what specific information the asterisks saved you time finding, I’d encourage you to comment on this Suggest and Vote idea. This is where we’re gathering feedback for how our clients use this feature in their day to day work. We’d love to know more about how this function saves you time.

I really do not like how the save button has moved to the left side. Is there any way to shift it back to the right?

    • Stephanie Kanak permalink

      Hi Anne,
The idea to pin the SAVE button came directly from our Suggest and Vote program, which is how clients like you can suggest ideas to improve DonorPerfect. You might not have realized it but the SAVE button was actually already on the top left side. It was also in 3 other places on the screen, including the right side. We chose to pin it in one location (on the top left side) so that it was standardized with other elements in DonorPerfect. We also have usage data that tells us where people click. If you like it on the right side, you can enter a suggestion and see if other clients agree and vote on your idea. We really do listen to our clients and implement hundreds of ideas each year!

  18. Susan Rose permalink

I agree with the comment above. I immediately noticed that the ‘tabs’ or headers that have information are no longer highlighted. That is a small thing that will really slow us down. We used to be able to easily see if there was a second address or gift on a record from the main screen.

    • Stephanie Kanak permalink

      Hi Susan,
Thanks for taking the time to let us know you use the highlighted tabs to scan for additional addresses and gifts. We love hearing from our clients and how they use our products. Would you be willing to vote and comment on this Suggest and Vote idea regarding this function? This is where we’re gathering feedback for how our clients use this feature in their day to day work. We’d love to know more about how you are using this function and how it differs from the information found on the Donor Profile. Thank you!

  19. I agree with Lisa Hansell. Liking the updated look, will have to get accustomed to it. But I miss the ** surrounding the tabs that have information. Look forward to see a reason to not have this.
    Thank you.

    • Stephanie Kanak permalink

      Hi Teresa,
Thank you for your feedback about this month’s release of DonorPerfect. I”m glad you like the new look. I’m also glad you took the time to let us know how you feel about the missing asterisks on the tabs. It’s always helpful for us to know what our clients think. In a previous thread on this post Associate Product Manager, Josh Nelson, who headed up the team that revamped the donor record, commented on the decision to remove the asterisks. We spent months working with clients like you to discover how to improve the donor experience. Clients told us they wanted information from the main, gift, pledge and other screens to be instantly accessible at their fingertips via Donor Profile. This has replaced some of what they used the asterisks for.

  20. Love the new look! Issue I noticed right away, is the monthly donor icon next to the donor profile. Looks like this will ONLY highlight/apply if the donor has a monthly pledge set up. Not all of our monthly donors use the auto-bill function. Some hand us their checks each month. Therefore, this function would not be reliable for my staff at a glance. Ideally, we could use the pledge function for other payment methods in addition to C.C.

OR, If the monthly donor icon could be made customizable to be made to pull from a solicitation/subsolicitation code for monthly donors, that could be a work around, however this then presents the issue of displaying those too, who no longer are not current monthly donors. (So we’d have to set parameters for how far back to go with that code)

    • Stephanie Kanak permalink

      Hi Deanna,
Yay! I’m so glad you like the new look. I will pass that along to our development team. They’ve been working very hard over the past few years to make DonorPerfect the best product possible.

There is a suggestion in Suggest and Vote in DP Community that was submitted by one of our users asking for the ability to customize the criteria that Donor Profile uses. I would definitely encourage you to visit that idea and comment on it with as much detail as you want to share about how you want to see it customized. Currently, there is not a lot of feedback on there for Monthly Giving, so anything you add here would be really helpful to us. You can find the idea here.

I agree with Lisa and those * * marks are very important to me. They are an “at a glance” tool; If there aren’t any there is no need for me to take time to go to that tab. If there are * * then there is something important there.

Very nice upgrades! And pinning the save button is a great enhancement, but as someone who’s been using DPO for 6 years, I’m really used to it being on the right hand of the screen. I think the new look is good, but am not sure why they left out the asterisk marks to show which fields have info. I found it useful in the past to be able to quickly glance at “Pledges” or other fields and know if the tab held information.
