DonorPerfect Releases #GivingTuesday Results – Giving Increases 46% Over Last Year!

Due to the concerted efforts of #GivingTuesday participants, nonprofit organizations using DonorPerfect realized a 46% gain in online giving on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in 2012 compared to 2011.

Horsham, PA, November 29, 2012 – DonorPerfect Fundraising software announced today that nonprofit organizations that use DonorPerfect and collected online donations in both 2011 and 2012 on #GivingTuesday (the Tuesday after Thanksgiving), realized an increase of 46% over last year.

GivingTuesday, the campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season, encouraged thousands of nonprofit organizations to “Get out the Give” this Holiday season.

And it worked.

Jon Biedermann, Vice President of Fundraising Products for SofterWare remarked, “It’s clear that the well organized #GivingTuesday campaign had an impact on nonprofit organizations’ ability to raise more money than ever before. For organizations that received online donations in both 2011 and 2012, not only were overall donation totals up 46%, but the average gift amount increased as well, from $109.81 to $136.85 – a nearly 25% increase!”

“DonorPerfect clients were encouraged to take advantage of the increased public awareness, and as a result, sent emails and took advantage of Facebook and Twitter to get their message out. The resulting outpouring of generosity from the public is a testament to the American tradition of giving to those less fortunate, especially during the holidays.”

For nonprofit organizations, the “Giving Season” from Thanksgiving through the end of the year accounts for over 30% of their total annual revenue. In addition, days like #GivingTuesday, as well as the last two days of the year, can account for over 10% of an organization’s annual budget as donors are more likely to give during the holidays as well as take advantage of tax breaks for the 2012 tax year.

Rob Strickler, WebLink Product Manager for SofterWare commented, “That’s why it’s more important than ever to make sure that all nonprofit organizations have the right tools and technology to take advantage of this unique time of year. When people want to donate, they want to do it in the easiest way possible. While it’s important to have an online donation form, that’s not enough. Organizations need to ‘Get out the Give’ and communicate their online donation form to their constituents and community in order to succeed in raising more money.”

“While it will be difficult to sustain a 25% increase through the rest of the year, we’re confident that overall giving will continue to grow through the end of 2012,” Biedermann concluded. “Regardless of the state of the economy, it’s clear that people continue to feel generous and are willing to help out those in need.”
